The recent tragedy of Charlie Kirk’s assassination has left me with many questions. I find myself asking, “How does God want me to feel about the loss of such a devoted servant who touched so many lives for His glory?” I also wonder, “What can I learn from this situation?” and “How does God want me to respond in my own life despite this sad event?”
When we lose a fellow brother or sister in Christ too soon, especially due to their faith, it brings us sadness. In such circumstances, it’s easy to feel anger. However, I believe that God does not want us to become angry. I also don’t think Charlie Kirk would want that either.
I believe in the Word of God. The Bible states that our enemies are not of flesh and blood.
Ephesians 6:12
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
We can call others names, we can throw insults, and spew hate for one another. Instead, we must realize that God is in ultimate control. He is sovereign always.
Matthew 25:31 -33 The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Are we really that surprised that there is a divide in this country? We will be seeing the divide grow the closer we get to Jesus’ return.
We need to remember that there has been a spiritual war going on in the unseen realms since the day of Adam and Eve. There have been prophets, disciples, missionaries, and pastors who, throughout history, have lost their lives in dedication, loyalty, and speaking of God’s great love.
The Bible instructs believers to love their human enemies by doing good and praying for them, recognizing that while they are influenced by a spiritual enemy, they are also people in need of God’s love and the Gospel.
Matthew 5:43-48
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
So, how are we to respond? We most certainly don’t feel like taking this lying down. We don’t feel like any of this is okay. We don’t feel that there should be any rejoicing over the loss of a great man.
In the aftermath of tragedy, some may be afraid to stand up and proclaim Jesus as Lord, while others may be motivated to speak louder.
We need to ensure that our focus remains on the love of God rather than our anger about our loss. Ultimately, everything is about Jesus. We should express ourselves not in anger, but in love, desiring what God desires: for everyone to come to know Him and choose Him.
1 Timothy 2:4-6
4 God wants everyone to be saved and to fully understand the truth. 5 There is only one God, and there is only one way that people can reach God. That way is through Christ Jesus, who as a man 6 gave himself to pay for everyone to be free. This is the message that was given to us at just the right time.
Charlie Kirk was only trying to share that Truth.
I can’t help but think back to when Paul and the disciples faced persecution for sharing the gospel. They traveled from city to city proclaiming Jesus and His love for them. They went into hostile cities and were mocked.
Charlie went from university to university and public appearance after public appearance, sharing the gospel and proclaiming Jesus as Lord. He, like Paul, debated well-educated men. He had an answer for every question.
God gave Charlie a plan for his life. The enemy did not win. God knew that Charlie’s days were numbered and his time would be short.
Prophetic Succession is a process by which God sends people to prepare others for a new direction. God continually sends messengers. Joshua succeeded Moses, Elisha followed Elijah, and John the Baptist paved the way for Jesus.
I believe that Charlie may have served as an usher. He fulfilled the plan that God had for him and demonstrated to the younger generation what it means to be a loyal and a dedicated man of courage—not just through history books, but by living out those values.
God may provide each generation with a living example to help us measure our loyalty, servitude, and dedication. While not everyone is called to travel to universities, we are all called to contribute in some way to sharing the gospel and growing the Kingdom of Heaven. This is our service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In this time, don’t jump ahead of God. He has a plan already in place long before Charlie or you and I were ever in existence. It is the time, however, to pray, not only for Charlie’s family but also for where you fit in God’s plan. Who is the Holy Spirit urging you to minister to? We must listen to what the Spirit tells us. We were all given gifts from the Spirit to be equipped to fulfill God’s plan for our lives.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7
4 There are different kinds of gifts. But it is the same Holy Spirit Who gives them. 5 There are different kinds of work to be done for Him. But the work is for the same Lord. 6 There are different ways of doing His work. But it is the same God who uses all these ways in all people. 7 The Holy Spirit works in each person in one way or another for the good of all.
God writes the story, and we are His characters. We all have a part, for we are all members of one body of Christ. Surrender all your plans to the Lord. We want to be effective and not an obstacle to God’s plan, so pray and listen for His voice.
John 10:27-28
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Read God’s word and know it. Study it and place it into your hearts and minds.
Remember, the enemy didn’t win. God is still in charge, and His plan didn’t get thwarted. It was His plan all along, and we all have a plan and calling of our own.
There is no anger here, only a reminder that God calls us all to do something, and it’s the time to figure out what that something is. What now? Go forth and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, you have heard so many prayers by now. You are in charge, and you are sovereign. I thank you for the gift you gave the world of Charlie Kirk. I thank you for your Holy Spirit that worked in and through him to deliver the Truth to everyone who had ears to hear.
We are aware of the spiritual forces of evil. We ask for the discernment of spirits. We ask that we hear your voice as to our call while on this earth. We ask for your leadership in this time of mourning for such a great brother in Christ. May our response to this be one that glorifies you.
We ask that you comfort and bring peace to Charlie’s family and close friends. Some may be looking for answers or doubting you. Help us minister to them as well. I pray that you place in each of us strength, devotion, and courage as Charlie exemplified. May we all live to bring you glory and to make disciples of all nations where you call us to go. Heal this nation and expose all evil. May your Will be done here on earth as it is in Heaven. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
